2003 Clos Marion, Fixin, Domaine Fougeray de Beauclair, Burgundy, France

Patrice Ollivier

Description

This 100% Pinot Noir burgundy is full-bodied and from a very good vintage. 2003 was a very hot summer and produced concentrated ripe grapes. This is full of spicy strawberry fruit delicately overlaid with a touch of vanilla from the oak barrels. Very long finish.

More information

The Clos Marion vineyard was planted in 1946 and so the vines are now over 60 years old. No chemical sprays are used on this vineyard, vine pests are controlled with sexual confusion methods and they use a certified organic compost.

Domaine Fougeray de Beauclair is owned by Jean-Louis Fougeray and his son-in-law Patrice Ollivier and is well-known for their excellent Grand Cru Bonnes Mares. Clos Marion is a walled vineyard in Fixin, a village just north of Gevrey-Chambertin. The 60 year old vines ensure great concentration and act as a conduit for the deep soils which find their expression into this delicious Pinot Noir.
