Drink less but better this Christmas!

My top wine tip for Christmas is to trade up not down. Drink one bottle of £10 wine instead of two bottles of £5 and savour the experience. You'll also get a lot more value for your £10 because the Chancellor takes £1.57 in duty on every bottle regardless of the price, so the more you spend the more value you get in your bottle.

Here are some seasonal wine offers based on the Old World classics (offers run until end December or until stocks last):

REDS

2003 El Molino Rioja Reserva, Spain (probably the most popular wine from all the tastings I have done over the last few months - drinking beautifully now) £9.50 (£1 off)

2004 Chateau Cartier, St Emilion Grand Cru, Bordeaux, France - plump, cedary Merlot fruit, excellent with lamb or beef £11.95 (£2 off)

2003 Clos Marion, Fixin, Domaine Fougeray de Beauclair, Burgundy, France - rich, earthy scents from Pinot Noir grapes grown over the hot summer of 2003 (a meal in itself with a ripe gooey cheese) £15.95 (£3 off)

WHITES

2005 Lefko Chardonnay, Cefalicchio, Puglia, Italy - this will give a white Burgundy a good run for its money and only £8.50 (£1 off)

2005 Chablis, Domaine La Boissonneuse, France - minerally citrus fruit, ideal with shellfish, fish and chicken. £10.95 (£2 off)

2006 Soave Classico, Pieropan, Italy - this is no ordinary Soave, it has much more flavour and pedigree and accompanies a whole range of foods including hors d'oeuvres, fish and cold turkey! £9.50 (£1 off)
