I'm back from Bordeaux where I tasted the 2008 vintage en primeur. The bottom line is that it's pretty good and the prices are very reasonable but whether anyone has an appetite to buy en primeur this year is doubtful. From an ethical point of view there are some good moves being made towards sustainable viticulture. Over on the eastern side towards Bergerac I visited an organic vineyard run by Sean and Caroline Feely - Chateau Haut Garrigue. They make a range of wines red, white, sweet and sparkling, it's a lovely place to visit and you can rent a row of vines and go and pick the grapes. Have a look at their interesting website.
Also, I have just a few bottles of a delicious English wine, perfect for summer. The tall slim 50cl bottles are called Chapel Down Nectar from Tenterden in Kent. Deliciously light and delicately sweet this is lovely to have a glass on its own or with a bowl of strawberries! Enjoy the sunshine while it lasts! Best wishes Susan, Michele and all the team at Ethical Fine Wines Ethical Fine Wines - sustainable, organic, biodynamic and fairly-traded fine wines |
